Back to School

The first week of August is already upon us and while many of my "teacher friends" are cringing at the thought of returning to work in few weeks, I'm actually really excited that it's back to school time.  It's been more than ten years since I went school shopping for myself so I love to re-live the excitement of picking up the school supply list, organizing notebooks, stuffing pencil pouches and marking up the family desk calendar with important dates with Jacob.  Of course, he does not share my enthusiasm.

And you know what else is great about back to school time?  The return of structure!  Vacations are over, crazy outdoor home improvement projects are wrapping up and the day-to-day routine that helps to keep me sane finally returns.  So, while I'm confident I'll be blogging soon about the amount time required to help with homework and the insane number of sport practices and games each week; today I'm relishing in the start of something new.

I'm obsessed with my dog.  It's kinda scary.  But he loves me unconditionally no matter what my mental state is.  I swear he can read me like no other.  He gives me those oreo eyes and wet nose snoodles and magically all my stress goes away.  I really need that kind of love right now.  It's hot; so hot that we spend more time inside than out.  Our house feels like a dungeon with all of the blinds shut and drapes drawn to conserve electricity.  It's cabin fever during the dog days of summer.  That's why I need Sam.  I need that unconditional love even when I feel brittle and crispy.

Sam's going miss watching the neighborhood kids playing in their front yards once school starts.
